She Belongs To Me

So I guess today is Bob Dylan’s birthday, and it’s been a barrage of all Dylan, all day, everywhere we go. When I don’t give it much thought I say I don’t care for Dylan that much, as much of my exposure to him has been that overplayed diss to Edie Sedgewick that’s constantly used on classic rock radio (ever notice that most AOR stations only play the same few hits of an artist over and over, even if they have aback catalogue full of decades worth of music?) And I was once brought to that movie that went on for like 5 hours where he’s a black kid and then he’s a woman, which doesn’t stop him from being a misogynist and a pretentious douche, at least as he’s portrayed in that film. But as I’ve been hearing other stuff throughout the day and remembering “Well I like that song”…”And I do like that one too”…And I think this may be my favorite:

She’s got everything she needs
She’s an artist, she don’t look back
She’s got everything she needs
She’s an artist, she don’t look back
She can take the dark out of nighttime
And paint the daytime black.

You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
But you will wind up peeking through her keyhole
Down upon your knees.

She never stumbles
She’s got no place to fall
She never stumbles
She’s got no place to fall
She’s nobody’s child
The Law can’t touch her at all.

She wears an Egyptian ring
That sparkles before she speaks
She wears an Egyptian ring
That sparkles before she speaks
She’s a hypnotist collector
You are a walking antique.

Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
For Halloween buy her a trumpet
And for Christmas, give her a drum.
