First some good news — my comic “Living In La La Land” is running on the website Dissident Voice. From their mission statement:
“Dissident Voice is an internet newsletter dedicated to challenging the distortions and lies of the corporate press and the privileged classes it serves. The goal of Dissident Voice is to provide hard hitting, thought provoking and even entertaining news and commentaries on politics and culture that can serve as ammunition in struggles for peace and social justice.”
Does “Living In La La Land” do that? I dunno, but it’s probably a more honest depiction of disenfranchised artists living in New York than…whatever Mayor Bloomberg or HBO want you to currently believe. Anyway, here’s a link to the first installment on there:
Another practice with pastels:
This is a study of a permanently smudged plastic doll at Abuelita’s. I’m not super thrilled with the lack of definition on the left leg, but otherwise I’m happy with the way I managed to capture the thing’s expression.(Trouble sleeping? How about now?) She calls this doll “Josef” and found him some years back abandoned at the laundromat. Which is weird, cuz what kid wouldn’t hold on for dear life to a toy that resembles an endemic Christopher Walken with an Eminem haircut? Right? RIGHT?
